How to use Windows Easy Transfer

You can use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer your files and setting to a new computer or to a new OS system installation.

You can transfer the following types of files:

  • Folders and Files
  • E-mail settings messages and contacts
  • Internet favorites
  • Program settings (but not the actual software)
  • User account settings

If you have an Easy Transfer Cable (a USB to USB cable to connect the two computers). You can also create a portable transfer file on a DVD, CD, external hard drive, or any other portable storage device.

To start the transfer process:

  1. Log on to your computer as the Administrator.
  2. Click the Start menu >  All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Windows Easy Transfer.
  3. You will now need to follow the on-screen instructions in the Windows Easy Transfer wizard to specify the information that you would like to transfer along with the password for recovering the data.
  4. Now if you are transferring files from a removable drive or media you will need to start Windows Easy Transfer on the other computer , and click continue the Transfer In Progress.
  5. Once you are done providing the information requested from the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard you will be prompted to insert the transfer disc into the other computer. Select the destination drive > Enter the password > click Next.

That is all it takes to transfer files and settings to the new computer or new installation of  Windows 7.
